Learning to scat sing is much like learning a language: it develops through repeated listening, imitation, and creative experimentation based on the musical models you hear.

This interactive, two-part workshop is designed for vocalists with beginning to intermediate experience in scat singing, though singers of all levels are welcome. Through hands-on activities, participants will build practical skills in several areas, including:

  • Syllable exercises for developing rhythmic vocabulary and groove

  • Melodic shapes and phrase patterns for expanding improvisational ideas

  • Foundational ear-training exercises for hearing and singing through chord changes

Participants will receive recommended exercises to practice between sessions, and optional Q&A time will follow each class.

Whether you are new to scat singing or looking to strengthen your skills, this workshop offers practical tools for developing greater confidence, fluency, and creativity as a jazz vocalist.
