This latest offering in Jennifer Jolly’s workshop series celebrates the deeply grooving piano artistry of Dr. John (born Mac Rebennack). Known widely for his rollicking New Orleans R&B and funk, Mac also masterfully mixed standards, gospel, boogie-woogie, and other genres in an instantly recognizable, full, and highly rhythmic style.
In this workshop you’ll learn some of Dr. John’s signature sounds, how to play excerpts from several of his quintessential songs, and how to incorporate his stylistic elements into your own playing. We’ll also view Mac in action through archival live footage.
