Explore Afro-Cuban music and Puerto Rican salsa in a large ensemble setting, with an emphasis on groove, improvisation, ensemble communication, and stylistic interpretation. The band brings together horns, vocalists, percussion, and rhythm section players to rehearse and perform an extensive repertoire drawn from Latin big band traditions.
Participants will develop greater familiarity with the rhythmic language, ensemble roles, phrasing, and improvisational approaches that shape this music while gaining experience performing in a full large-ensemble setting.
All levels are welcome; however, basic reading skills and solid technical facility are strongly encouraged, as much of the repertoire ranges from intermediate to advanced.
