Learn how to transform a simple lead sheet into a compelling and personal performance. This workshop will explore accompaniment patterns, groove, reharmonization, intros and endings, texture, form, and other arranging strategies that help create a cohesive musical interpretation.
Whether you are a vocalist who accompanies yourself or works with an accompanist, or an instrumentalist seeking more creative and expressive ways to approach a song, you will gain practical tools for bringing lead sheets to life. Piano proficiency is not required, and the workshop is open to vocalists and instrumentalists whether or not they accompany themselves.
Bring a standard you enjoy performing, along with any ideas or arrangements you have already developed, and we will workshop it together. Participants may attend as soloists, with a duo partner, or as accompanists.
Recommended Preparation
Basic familiarity with reading lead sheets and chord symbols. No piano proficiency is required.
