Carlos Oliveira is a guitarist, composer, arranger, and teacher originally from the state of Pernambuco in Northeast Brazil. He began playing guitar as a teenager and has lived in the United States since 1980, teaching and performing the music of his native region while showcasing a wide variety of Brazilian styles. His album Brazilian Origins was released in 2000, and his ensemble, Brazilian Origins, has appeared as both a headlining and opening act for major Brazilian artists including Sergio Mendes, Jaques Morelenbaum, and Rosa Passos. Oliveira has also performed at local venues and festivals including Yoshi’s, Kuumbwa Jazz, the San Francisco Jazz Festival, the San Jose Jazz Summer Fest, and the Monterey Jazz Festival.
