Carla Kaufman is a bassist and cellist with extensive experience in the jazz and classical genres. As a jazz player, she has performed with Jules Broussard, Noel Jewkes, Calvin Keys, David Udolf, Pete Yellin, Scotty Wright, Ed Reed, Maria Muldaur, Clark Terry, Barbara Morrison, Smiley Winters, Jack Dorsey, Mark Levine, Akira Tana, Benny Watson, Donald “Duck” Bailey, and many more. Her classical background includes performing with many of the “Freeway Philharmonic” orchestras, including the Berkeley Symphony under Kent Nagano, The Women’s Philharmonic, The Russian Chamber Orchestra, Verismo Opera, and the Vallejo Symphony. She holds a BA in Music from UC Berkeley, and, beyond maintaining a busy performance schedule, runs a private teaching studio and coaches youth combos at the Jazzschool.
