Lisa Mezzacappa

Bassist, educator, composer, bandleader and arts administrator Lisa Mezzacappa has played a dynamic part in the Bay Area music community for more than 20 years. She studied at the University of Virginia and UC Berkeley, and has worked in all realms of nonprofit arts administration with organizations such as Cal Performances, Stanford Live, New Langton Arts, Kronos Performing Arts, InterMusic SF, and the UCLA Hammer Museum. A committed teacher, she has maintained a vibrant private bass studio for more than 10 years, and also teaches composition at Vermont College of Fine Arts. In-demand as a sideperson and bandleader, Lisa has recently been featured in Downbeat and JazzTimes, and has performed her music at the Monterey Jazz Festival, Edgefest Ann Arbor, Angel City Jazz Festival, and SFJAZZ Center, among others. Most recently, she has been active in her music community organizing concerts and festivals, and releasing the work of Bay Area jazz artists on her Berkeley-based micro record label Queen Bee Records.
