Our Jazz Combos provide middle and high school students with the opportunity to develop improvisation, ensemble playing, and musicianship in a small-group setting. Students are placed in ensembles based on experience level and availability to create the best musical fit.
Through the study and performance of jazz repertoire, students develop improvisational vocabulary, listening skills, stylistic understanding, and ensemble communication while building confidence as creative musicians. The emphasis is on collaboration, musical interaction, and the skills needed to perform effectively in a jazz combo.
Placement is by audition. Auditions are accepted on an ongoing basis, and students are placed in an ensemble that best matches their experience and availability. Please review the audition guidelines before applying.
