An ensemble focusing on learning and performing the classic hits of Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, The Police, Average White Band, Sly & the Family Stone, Earth Wind and Fire and more.

A concert featuring the award-winning Jazzschool Studio Bands under direction of Keith Johnson in preparation for their performances at the Monterey Jazz Festival’s Next Generation Festival this April! Also, making their performance debut, the Jazzschool’s Latin Jazz Ensemble under direction of Dave Gregoric!

An ensemble focusing on developing the skills and repertoire needed for typical jazz gigs. Repertoire, intros, endings, interludes and tags are covered. Various jazz feels including swing, bossa, jazz waltz and ballads are studied and played. Class time is also dedicated to the study of jazz harmony, as applied to selected standard repertoire.

Aspiring singers and re-entering fledglings work on breathing and vocal techniques necessary to sing any genre of song including blues, jazz, American songbook or cabaret, and apply those techniques to loved songs of their choice.

Students develop an understanding of basic music theory (counting measures, analyzing grooves, understanding blues scales and chord progressions) while learning the essential skills that allow them to take part in jam sessions with confidence.
