Odd Meter Workshop (How to Play or Sing in 7/4) with Frank Martin

Keyboardist, producer, composer Frank Martin (Sting, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock) leads this workshop on playing and singing in 7/4. Participants learn to find the “dance” of 7/4 which is EVERYTHING. Class time is spent clapping, moving and counting (until it’s no longer needed) with the goal of removing any fear of 7/4 and coming to the realization that it’s no different from any other time signature, once your body feels the groove. A variety of ways to play 7/4 are demonstrated, including polyrhythmic applications. Some class time is spent listening to recorded examples of arrangements in 7/4 time.
