This exceptional night of fiery, hard-swinging jazz features drumming great Mike Clark, known worldwide for his groundbreaking work with Herbie Hancock on the legendary mid-70s albums Thrust, Man-Child and Flood. Clark’s astonishing list of performing and recording credits is a who’s who ranging from Joe Henderson to Wayne Shorter, Tony Bennett, Gil Evans, Woody Shaw, Larry Coryell and literally hundreds of others. Among drummers, he is widely recognized as responsible for some of the most influential jazz-funk innovations of all time, and his beats have been widely sampled by hip hop artists.
Clark will be joined by three of the Bay Area’s absolute crème de la crème — Michael Zilber on saxophones, Peter Horvath on piano and Jeff Chambers on bass. Individually, Zilber, Horvath and Chambers have worked with jazz greats including Freddie Hubbard, Dave Liebman, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Rachel Z, Victor Bailey, James Genus, Lenny White, Steve Smith and many more. While the four musicians have played together in various combinations, this will be their first date as a quartet. No doubt it will be a world-class event, right here in the intimate venue of the Jazzschool — do not miss!
“The solo Mike played on the album Thrust, on the song “Actual Proof,” is one of the best drum solos on any of my albums.” — Herbie Hancock
