SUMMARY:Erik Deutsch Band
DESCRIPTION:An in-demand sideman and leader of his own acclaimed groups\, pianist Erik Deutsch comes to the Jazzschool in support of his new album “Demonio Teclado\,” a psychedelic blend of retro soul-jazz and rock. Recorded live to 1/4-tape in Erik's building in Williamsburg\, the songs are a fun\, listenable blend of groove\, sonic exploration\, and modern jazz composition. Also featuring Jon Gray\, trumpet/vocals; Jeff Hill\, bass; and Tony Mason\, drums. Having first come to prominence as a member of the funk-jazz collective Fat Mama\, Erik Deutsch has taken his talents across the country to play with some of the finest musicians available. Currently living in Brooklyn\, NY\, Erik splits his time between his own band and backing up artists such as Norah Jones\, Rosanne Cash\, Alice Smith\, Ellery Eskelin\, Ben Allison\, Steven Bernstein\, and Theo Bleckmann.  Deutsch holds the distinction of being the only keyboardist to tour regularly with 7-string guitar master Charlie Hunter\, and is spent much of 2012 on the road with Shooter Jennings in support of their new album Family Man (on which he is prominently featured). "Demonio Teclado...suggests a postmillennial update of the 1970s crossover paragons like Eddie Harris and George Duke" -- Nate Chinen\, NY Times
