As a singer, guitarist and composer, Claudia has had a long and diverse musical career in Colombian and other Latin American genres. Through her encounter with the best jazz, Brazilian and Latin American musicians, Claudia has developed her own concept of Colombian traditional music with jazz-tinged elements.
In San Francisco she recorded three albums: Claudia Canta Brasil (1989) where she explored Brazilian music, Salamandra (1992) where she got closer to her Latin roots, and Tierradentro (1996), where she presented seven of her own compositions. In Madrid, she recorded Vivir Cantando (2000), and back in Colombia in 2002 Claudia recorded the acclaimed Majagua, an album that gathered an exuberant repertoire of traditional Colombian musics from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast, from the plains to the Andean cordilleras of Colombia. Continuing with her exploration of Colombian music, in 2009 Claudia’s Arropame que tengo Frio, a joint work between Claudia and ethnomusicologist Alejandro Tobon, presented in a 100 page CD booklet explaining the Romancero in Colombia, with 16 ‘romances’ interpreted vocally from contemporary idioms without forgetting traditional sonorities. In 2010 Claudia presented an intimate solo album Tal Cual made up solely of her own compositions.
Since 2002 Claudia has lived in Medellin, Colombia, and for many years has combined teaching and touring through out Europe, South America and North America. Today, back in her beloved San Francisco Bay Area, Claudia will present old and new songs, a panoramic view of what her music has been through out her career. Accompanied by her good friends and her own old band, guitarist Jeff Buenz, bassist David Belove and drummer Celso Alberti, together they will have fun and provide you with a memorable musical evening. Don’t miss this rare opportunity!
